Cutting between audition tapes, the casting directors’ table, and the edit room, Britton’s single-channel video considers the modern casting call as synecdoche for the means of production. Moody and sinister, the thirty-six-minute video draws its soundtrack from Brian Eno’s Music for Films (1978).Casting Call features appearances by Michael Clark, Kate Craig, Hank Bull, Terry Ewasiuk, Peggy Gale, Walter Gulesko, Monica Holden-Lawrence, Eric Metcalfe, Sid Morosoff, Jane Ellison, and Cornelia Wyngaarden, among others.
The work was produced at Western Front and partially shot at PUMPS Centre for the Arts.
