While in residence at Western Front, Andrew James Paterson produced the video work Basic Motel. The video follows a fictional international rockstar, Richard Monitor, as he checks into a discrete hotel on the west coast of Canada using the pseudonym David Stinson. While seeking solace from the public in his hotel room, he chain smokes in bed and is haunted by events in his career: television interviews, meet and greets with fans, photoshoots, and various soirées.
The video features appearances by Chris Abel, Hank Bull, Wendy Cartwright, Elizabeth Chitty, Jo Anne Birnie-Danzker, Margaret Dragu, Jane Ellison, Alan Gislisen, Andy Graffiti, Steve Hackett, Carol Hackett, Richard Hambleton (R. Dick Trace-It), Matt Harley, Eric Metcalfe, Michael Morris, Kim Tomczak, Janice Toulouse, and Elizabeth Van Der Zaag. Basic Motel also features an original score by Paterson.
