Description:

Throughout the 1980s, Gordon Halloran was commissioned to create life-sized mixed-media group portraits for leading financial institutions, depicting traders in action at exchanges in Chicago, San Francisco, New York, Toronto, and Vancouver. Drawing on his encounters with millionaire traders, Halloran developed his one-man play Showing Size—a dramatized portrait of an individual standing alone in a stock exchange trading pit.

The performance opened with a rapid-fire slideshow of photographs of financial trading drawn from Halloran’s archive of over two-thousand research images. The images were accompanied by a live stock ticker to evoke the frenzy and dark intensity of the trading floor. Over the course of an hour, Halloran narrated the physical and emotional toll of greed within the international marketplace.
