Description:
While in residence at Western Front, Gabi Dao initiated two parallel series that explored the politics surrounding cross-disciplinary, DIY artistic communities through practices of conversation, interviews, listening, and self-broadcasting.
Produced in the sound studio at Western Front,
Here Nor There was a podcast series that invited artists, musicians, writers, curators, organizers and other cultural producers to speak about their work in the places they call home. The program provided a platform for audibility, to facilitate dialogue and to provide an intimate space for listening. Exploring the episode as form,
Here Nor There mined the medium of the podcast as an accessible, horizontal platform in which those who consume content also have the ability to produce it.
Here Nor There developed alongside
Slow Wave, a series of sound-based events and gatherings organized by Dao in collaboration with Soledad Muñoz, Zam Zam Warsame,Nvrsine, Prado Monroe, Tom Whalen, Yu Su, and Scott Gailey.
Dao’s residency was funded through the BC Arts Council Early Career Residency Program.
