Shahzad Ismaily’s hour-long performance in the Grand Luxe Hall featured compositions for drums, acoustic and electric guitar, vocals, bass, and various percussion instruments. At the midpoint of his set, Ismaily invited the audience to join him in creating a gentle humming sound dedicated to loved ones who have passed away. This collective frequency resonated throughout the space and led into an improvisation on tambourine. To close the performance, Ismaily read excerpts from Ole Risom’s children’s book I Am a Bunny (1963) while playing electric guitar textured with distortion effects.
