Description:

In 2017, after over forty years of being out of print, Anthology Film Archives and Light Industry republished Stan Brackhage’s book Metaphors on Vision (1963). On this occasion, Scrivener’s Monthly welcomed Thomas Beard of Light Industry to present on the landmark text. Beard’s introduction was followed by a screening of three of Brakhage’s films related to the book: The Dead (1960), Anticipation of the Night (1958), and Mothlight (1963).

Scrivener’s Monthly was a series of public presentations that explored the space between material practices and spoken words. Set alongside exhibitions at Western Front, this experiment in “not publishing” involved readings, performances, and other articulations.

Video documentation of this event is available upon request.
