Coinciding with BC Youth Week, this iteration of Sonic Playground featured programs at the Roundhouse Community Centre that showcased sound creations by youth. Programming included an exhibition of sound works by Burnaby North Secondary School students made in collaboration with instrument makers Leslie Ross and Frederik Brummer; a performance by musicians Russell Wallace and Ron Wallace; an instrument building workshop; a comic book score workshop led by New Orchestra Workshop (NOW) Society; open rehearsals for Publik Secrets and Gamelan Bike Bike’s shadow play Speed Stunned Imaginations; and a performance showcase of electronic compositions by Burnaby North Secondary students mentored by sound artists Jennifer Schine, Milena Droumeva, Jeremy Schmidt, Remy Siu, and Gabsung Lim.

Sonic Playground was a joint initiative of Western Front, Vancouver New Music, and NOW Society that paired youth with professional artists to explore experimental practices in sound and music.
