Speed Stunned Imaginations was an outdoor shadow play and concert by Vancouver-based collectives Gamelan Bike Bike and Publik Secrets, presented as part of The New Bronze Age—a series that explored west coast adaptations of Indonesian gamelan music.
Using handmade instruments made from recycled bike parts, the evening opened with a thirty-minute performance of Balinese-style gamelan by Gamelan Bike Bike. Once the sun set over the park, they were joined by Publik Secrets members Robyn Jacob and George Rahi who performed an original shadow play based on the writings of philosopher Ivan Illich. A fabric backdrop and overhead projector were used to illuminate handmade puppets and illustrated transparencies that told a story about transportation and modern life.
