Description:
Western Front hosted Shana Moulton for a residency in which she developed and performed Detached Inner Eye, a new work produced as part of her ongoing video and performance series Whispering Pines (2002–).
Detached Inner Eye centres Cynthia, Moulton’s alter ego, as she traverses commodified forms of new age mysticism, beauty, and domesticity through rituals that are at once banal and uncanny. Produced for the Grand Luxe Hall, the work featured a mix of live performance, props, projected video, computer animation, and original songs to explore the hypochondriac anxieties of achieving self-fulfillment within a capitalist society. Moulton’s presentation of Detached Inner Eye was accompanied by a screening of selected video works.
Western Front is a non-profit
