Chinese Rice Garden

Field:

Performance, Media Artwork

Location:

A Space, Toronto

Description:

A Space hosted Western Front artists for a residency in which they developed a series of exhibitions and programs at the Toronto artist-run-centre.

In Chinese Rice Garden, Glenn Lewis uses numerous cans of China Lily chicken fried rice, a combination of fresh and canned vegetables, and soy sauce to create a garden on a silver platter. While landscaping the ingredients, Lewis riffed with the audience, took questions, and shared commentary about his process and the production history of the canned items. Upon completion, the food was shared with audience members as part of a buffet dinner.
