Description:

Through the Holes is a single-channel video by Elizabeth Vander Zaag that is concerned with the content of the video screen. In the three-minute work, Vander Zaag magnifies the scan lines that create a television picture, abstracting the image into a shifting, pointillist mosaic of electronic Ben-Day dots. On the work, Vander Zaag writes:

"The process of using a macro lens to shoot the video screen enabled us to go beyond the primary content of television soap operas. By discovering the holes in the television screen grid, I find a freedom from the formal context of the medium."
