Field:

Talk, Gathering, Workshop

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Description:

Western Front hosted the Vancouver new music community for consultation and discussion of issues in contemporary music over a two-day forum. The event was introduced by DB Boyko.

Presentations were given by invited speakers: Lauren Pratt on “The Sustainability of Contemporary Music,” Lars Cuzner and Jan Ferm on “Youth Outreach,” and John Moonen on “Considerations for Lobbying.”

There was a panel discussion with representatives from key organizations: Nikki Carter (New Orchestra Workshop Society), Giorgio Magnanensi (Vancouver New Music), Colin Miles (Canadian Music Centre), David Pay (Music on Main), and Ben Wilson (Western Front).

Participants had an open discussion and the day ended with a reception.

Participants reconvened on the second day for a working session facilitated by Lauren Pratt to review discussions and ideas to form into an action plan.

Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.

We acknowledge the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and səl̓ílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations as traditional owners of the land upon which Western Front stands.
