Residency

Description:

As part of the Reverie project, Jean Routhier was hosted as an artist-in-residence. During his residency, Routhier focused on gathering field recordings and accessing archival recordings towards new research.

Routhier’s field recordings were from soundwalks around the city and UBC Farm. Routhier was interested in the farm’s unique location as a tranquil reserve at the edge of the city as well as its discarded agricultural research equipment as possibilities for sound exploration.

Routhier was also interested in the sounds of the city where its citizens are the main generators of sound, and not drowned out by the city’s predictable sonic blanket. This led him to research archival recordings of riots.
