Description:
The Australian contemporary classical ensemble Topology performed at Western Front as part of their North American tour. Known for their rhythmic precision, and genre-bending performance of post-classical music, their performance featured commissioned works by avant-garde Canadian and Australian composers, including John Abrams, Claude Vivier, and Elena Kats-Chernin; and strains of world music inspired by Balinese and South Indian music.
The quintet also performed their own compositions, such as McLibel (2000), in which a mini-opera is constructed from the recorded voices of the defendants and plaintiffs of Britain’s longest court case.
The performers were John Babbage (saxophone), Christa Powell (violin), Bernard Hoey (viola), Robert Davidson (double bass), and Kylie Davidson (piano).
Western Front is a non-profit
artist-run centre in Vancouver.
