Residency

Description:

While in residence at Western Front, curator-artists Nicole Gingras, Emily Vey Duke and Cooper Battersby, Richard Fung, and Aiyyana Maracle conducted research in the video archive. Their work was part of a larger initiative to preserve the archive and increase its public accessibility.

The project involved remastering and restoring video productions and performance art documentation created on early 1/2″ and 3/4″ formats between 1973 and 1987. The works were re-catalogued with descriptions and artist statements sourced from books, files, and other paper records.

Each curator contributed writing and selected videos for a respective screening program. These selections were compiled onto a four-disc DVD set which, along with the accompanying texts, became Eternal Network: Videos from the Western Front Archives 1973-2001. This publication and touring exhibition launched in March 2003 to celebrate Western Front’s 30th anniversary.

The project was supported by the Daniel Langlois Foundation.
