This was an exhibition of two of Fassler's photographic series, No Contact Made: The flower project and The Award Ceremony of the Self Acclaimed. Both works were representative of Fassler's interests in exploring performance and interaction through photography.
No Contact Made documented performative gestures of randomly and anonymously leaving bouquets of flowers at the doorsteps of Berlin apartments. Fassler's photographs were intermediaries between two distinct performances: the act of the artist leaving the flowers and the latent reaction of the apartment resident. The project was conceived as a response to the isolation she felt moving to Berlin. Fassler was interested in this simple act and its ability to break normal routines and elicit widely varied reactions.
In The Award Ceremony of the Self Acclaimed, Fassler asked a group of acquaintances to choose an award for themselves. Fassler had trophies made and engraved with the name of the award and recipient. The photographic portraits in the exhibition were taken during the ceremony in which participants received their awards.
An opening took place on Nov 22, 2002.
