Description:

Jana Sterbak's Generic Man was originally produced as a billboard for her 1989 solo exhibition at the Mackenzie Art Gallery, Regina. Reformulated for presentation at Western Front, the work consisted of a single photograph and a frame. As implied by its title, Generic Man refers to systems and codes of commodification, as well as to aspects of desire and fetishization.

Curated by Annette Hurtig.
