Description:

Western Front hosted the Canadian premiere of Paul Wong’s feature-length film, Ordinary Shadows, Chinese Shade.

Drawing on Wong’s travels to the People’s Republic of China between 1982 and 1986, the film weaves together stories and images of the Chinese diaspora in Canada alongside those of people in mainland China. Observing his family’s daily activities, Wong captures the ordinariness of life in China, while his second-generation Chinese-Canadian perspective reveals a portrait of displaced cultures and traditions in transition.

Daily screenings took place in the Grand Luxe Hall from March 30 to April 1, 1989.

Presented in partnership with On Edge.
