Description:

Western Front presented Dutch artist and curator Aart van Barneveld for a lecture in the Grand Luxe Hall, where he discussed his role as director of Time Based Arts, Amsterdam—an artist-run centre dedicated to the distribution and presentation of media-based performance, video, sound recordings, and cassettes.

Barneveld presented a curated program of videos, slides, and sound works by Dutch artists Jaap Drupsteen, David Garcia and Annie Wright, Rocs Theuws, Franziska Lingg, Paul Muller and Anna Rubin, Jacoba Bedaux and Relly Tarlo, Michal Shabtay, and Marieken Verheyen.

Barneveld’s visit to Vancouver was part of his research for curating an exhibition of Canadian video art for the 1985 Holland Festival.
