Description:

The First BC Art Race was a performance event in which participating artists raced down Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver while “carrying their art on their backs.” Organized by Glenn Lewis and Gerry Gilbert, the performance was staged for Up Canada, a program that aired on CBC Television. During the competition, Tom Shandel unwound one of his films from the end of a hockey stick; HP (Hank Bull and Patrick Ready) unveiled their new Sedan Bottle with Andy Graffiti riding inside; and Anna Banana, Dr. Brute (Eric Metcalfe), and Mr. Peanut (Vincent Trasov) raced in costume. Glenn Lewis, dressed as Adolf Hitler, presented Anna Banana with the winner’s prize on the steps of the Vancouver Art Gallery.
