A talk presented as part of the installation REGENERATION: Breaking Time with Indigenous Video Games, with artist collective Heart Projector; REGENERATION curator Maize Longboat; and game developers Moni Garr, Nathan Powless-Lynes, Meagan Byrne, and Carl Petersen, who participated in the conversation virtually via Skype. Moderated by Western Front media arts curator Allison Collins, the talk began with a presentation by Heart Projector that provided an introduction to the landscape of mainstream and indie videogames. Each game developer had the opportunity to discuss the processes behind creating their games featured in the REGENERATION arcade at Western Front. Throughout the discussion, the speakers shared industry experience and insights into the worldbuilding potential of videogames as a medium for cultural transmission and knowledge sharing.
