Description:
This was a performance by Jason St-Laurent where he was enclosed within a wheeled black fibreglass box with a small peephole and moved through the city, evoking a roving black monolith. This apparatus challenged the fixity of monuments and their public power in establishing place and memory. He sought to visit areas of Vancouver affected by crime, drug use, and prostitution to temporarily memorialize all who are forgotten.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
