Description:

Two Places at Once: Transfigured Wood Part 4 is the final instalment of a photography series by Marian Penner Bancroft. Following a three-part photographic installation, this concluding work takes the form of a book composed of twelve foldouts with text. The images are split in two, and the text mirrors this fragmentation, resisting a linear reading of either image or word.

In Two Places at Once, Penner Bancroft challenges traditional notions of landscape photography by disrupting its associations with beauty and formal composition. Instead, she presents the landscape as an active agent in shaping imagination and history, while questioning our ability to represent the full complexity of our geographic experience.

The cover of Two Places at Once is a hand-stamped box-sleeve made of common pulp-board, which holds the collection of photos that fold out to a spread of 30" x 8".
