Steve Heimbecker in Residence

Description:

While in residence, Steve Heimbecker worked on a Vancouver-specific iteration of his Songs of Place project. The concept of Songs of Place was to capture an audio portrait of a locale through quadraphonic (4-channel surround sound) recordings in a process Heimbecker called “acoustic mapping.” Heimbecker then used processing techniques he had developed to edit and layer the recordings. The final work was a composition that allowed the audience to hear various sites simultaneously.
