Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

Description:

Art’s Birthday was a tradition started by French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou who declared, on January 17, 1963, that Art had been born exactly 1,000,000 years prior when somebody dropped a dry sponge into a bucket of water. Over many decades, artists have continued to organize annual celebrations in the spirit of Filliou’s “Eternal Network” or “La Fête permanente.”

Western Front presented a webcast with a performance by Steve Heimbecker presenting a version of Songs of Place, and Sutrisno Haratana and Heri Dono performing Indonesian puppetry, followed by a lavish dinner with performative interruptions. The streaming project, .. devolve into II .., was also launched.

External events were presented by CiTR Radio (Vancouver) and Kunstradio (Vienna), and included streams from Australia, Taiwan, Canada, United Kingdom, Austria, and Italy.

Video documentation is available upon request.
