In The Negotiating Table, Mona Hatoum lies motionless on a table surrounded by empty chairs in a dark room illuminated by only a single light bulb. Her body is wrapped in plastic and covered in entrails, while her head is bandaged in bloodstained surgical gauze. News reports on the civil war in Lebanon are juxtaposed with speeches by Western leaders talking about peace, which gradually grow louder throughout the performance.Video documentation is available upon request.
