Description:
So Much I Want to Say was filmed at Western Front and transmitted to Vienna during a slowscan live video exchange titled Wiencouver IV (1983). Within the context of satellite transmission, this work was intended to subvert the notion of easy flow of information through the electronic media and to disrupt the myth of the global village.
A series of still images unfold (one every eight seconds), revealing Hatoum’s face in close up, filling the screen. Two male hands (belonging to Hank Bull) repeatedly gag Hatoum and obscure parts of her face, sometimes covering her completely. On the soundtrack repeated over and over are the words “So much I want to say,” spoken by a female voice.
Video documentation is available upon request.
Western Front is a non-profit artist-run centre in Vancouver.
