Description:
Building on a previous residency at Western Front in 2002, Heri Dono and his collaborator Sutrisno Hartana returned to the Grand Luxe Hall to produce and present two wayang performances (Indonesian puppet theatre) with accompaniment by trained Indonesian dancers and musicians. Dono and Hartana worked with local artists to develop a contemporary wayang that blended Indonesian traditions of shadow puppetry, drumming, and singing with Western-style digital imaging, video, and installation.
During their live performance, the audience was invited to view the work from multiple vantage points, including behind the screen.
Curated by Don Chow.
Video documentation available upon request.
