For his solo performance at Western Front, Lyn Vasey performed blues slide guitar, electric guitar, and bass with effects, acoustic compositions, and extended techniques. His instruments hung from the ceiling until they were used, creating a theatrical framing for the performance. The transitions between instruments and songs were intercut with two alternating voices: one proclaiming the power of positive thinking, and the other drawn from conservative news broadcasts reporting on the evils of homosexuality. A set piece included Bill Pearce and Dick Anthony’s record “Bill & Dick” (1984), which was displayed at the front of the stage next to Vasey’s pedal board.
Following Vasey’s set, GX Jupitter-Larson emerged on stage in a black executioner hood and performed a “destroyed music” noise set using an electric projector loaded with a tape loop of an industrial rhythm.
Presented as part of Musicity 84.
