Kazue Mizushima’s Eve of the Future transformed the Grand Luxe Hall into a harp-like acoustic instrument through her practice of “stringraphy.” Mizushima constructed a sprawling web of taut, crisscrossing silk threads connected to paper cups, and to a piano, enveloping both herself and the audience within its delicate grid. As she stroked the threads, the friction generated a haunting soundscape.
For the performance, Mizushima was assisted by Scott Harker, Emiko Morita, Michael O’Neill, and David Snelgrove.
