Amphibious Tales and News from Hyperspace

As part of the New Music Across America Festival, Western Front presented new works by DB Boyko and Kenneth Newby.

Amphibious Tales was a song cycle by DB Boyko that incorporated extended vocal techniques, storytelling, and dance. Blurring the lines of autobiography and fiction, the performance brought a humorous and poetic look at the small moments and memories in our lives that we might perhaps consider insignificant. Boyko was accompanied by musicians Andreas Kahre, Mark Parlett, and Kenneth Newby. 

Kenneth Newby’s News From Hyperspace—Four Degrees of Fire was a composition for a small ensemble of players including voice, prepared piano, didgeridoo, percussion, suling, and computer-controlled synthesizers. Some of the music was based on Newby’s composition Ecology of Souls, which was created in collaboration with choreographer Lorraine Thomson.
