Les Levine is an artist born in Dublin, Ireland and based in New York, United States. An early adopter of videotape, television, and communication technologies, he is recognized as a pioneer of media art. He has also worked across painting, sculpture, installation, performance, mail art, artists’ books, and disposable materials—often in ways that bridge art and life. Since the 1980s Levine has become particularly recognized for his billboard works in which he subverts the language of mass advertising to interrogate social and political conditions.
