Hildegard Westerkamp is a composer, radio artist, and sound ecologist from Osnabrück, Germany, based in Vancouver, Canada. Westercamp’s practice is informed by her experience working with the World Soundscape Project at Simon Fraser University and broadcasting on Vancouver Co-operative Radio in the 1970s. Her pioneering musical works and writing exist at the intersection of environmental sounds, communication, radio arts, soundwalking, and listening to activate a greater awareness of sound as a decisive dimension of the world. Westerkamp presentes soundscape workshops, sound walks, site-specific installations, performances, and lectures internationally.
