Workshop

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Description:

Hotel for Now was a two-day collaborative script writing workshop led by Victor Coleman and David Young towards the production of a video-mystery. Participants developed their own characters and performed them on camera, while Western Front’s building played the part of the hotel.

Video documentation is available upon request.
A person stands with a cigarette in their mouth, before 6 people seated on the floor of the Grand Luxe Hall. 5 people sit in chairs along the wall listening intently. There is a sign above the entrance to the hall that states NO SMOKING.
Eight printed signs with indiscernible phrases occupy folding chairs, with four of them sporting an additional sheet of hand-written text beneath. Five participants scatter around the room amongst furniture and media equipment.
Ten participants stand in paired conversations around the room. A large roll of paper spreads across the floor marked with groupings of writing.
A participant kneels down to a roll of paper adding to a list titled Mr. Earnest. Three other lists, written on the same paper, are titled Ellen, Maynard Krebbs, and Caretaker Bob.
Eight participants gather around signs held in chairs and displayed across the wall. Another participant sits at a typewriter watching the group, while two others are interested in papers on the floor.
Fourteen participants gather in conversation facing away from the camera. The ground is cluttered with paper and personal effects.
Participants seated around the room direct their attention to someone with their finger raised in the air. A very long sheet of paper covered in writing spans halfway across the room.
