Description:

Straight Jacket is a seven-minute single-channel video in which Kate Craig is restrained by a handmade, hot pink satin straight jacket. The camera remains stationary with its focus fixed on the movement of Craig’s torso illuminated by a single spotlight.

Straight Jacket features an original song with lyrics by Craig, Hank Bull, and Mary Ready, and bass by Andy Graffiti. The lighting effects were produced in collaboration with Elizabeth Chitty.

Craig’s Straight Jacket costume was photographed with the support of the BC History Digitization Program at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, University of British Columbia.
