Residency

Description:

Western Front hosted bassoonist, instrument builder, and sound artist Leslie Ross for a residency in which she hosted a number of concerts, workshops, and presentations. While in residence, Ross led a hands-on workshop that focused on building conventional and invented instruments. This was followed by a concert in the Grand Luxe Hall in which Ross performed an evening of solo work for bassoon.

As part of her residency, Ross also worked with Square One—a youth music collective from the Burnaby school district—to collaborate on constructing several bicycle driven pump organs. The workshop, presented at the Roundhouse Community Centre as part of Sonic Playground, culminated in a performance at Western Front’s 40th Anniversary Open House, where Ross also led an instrument building table.
