Description:

For the video work Heroics: Definitions, Sara Diamond interviewed over thirty women, asking them to provide their personal definition of “hero” and “heroine,” and share a personal story reflecting courage, endurance, or survival. The interviews were filmed at Western Front on sets designed to resemble a kitchen, a living room, and a performance space. The domestic setting references television talk shows aimed at female audiences while also acknowledging these as places where women share their experiences with one another. Intercutting the interview footage with still photos, Heroics disrupts the conventional discourse of power and achievement shaped by patriarchal conditioning by centering women’s stories and experiences.

Video documentation is available upon request.
