Description:

While in residence at Western Front, Ardele Lister produced the single-channel video Zoe’s Car.

The work follows a family of three and begins with a seemingly innocent act: Lister sent away for “50 Farm Animals for $2.98” in her daughter Zoe’s name, and in turn, received an avalanche of junk mail—including a letter announcing that Zoe had “won” a car. Playing on the absurdity of a child being targeted by marketing and sweepstakes, Zoe’s Car offers a humorous critique of consumerism and the ever-growing desire to acquire more.

Zoe’s Car features performances by Hank Bull, Pearl Hunt, Ardele Lister, and Zoe Lister-Jones. The computer graphics were made by Jill Kroesen using Quantel’s Paintbox and Harry. The score was composed and performed by Jill Kroesen with Sandra Ward.

Video documentation is available upon request.
