Elizabeth Vander Zaag’s six-minute video work Hot Chicks on TV opens with two young girls—one distraught over a lost teddy bear later found in a junkyard, the other overwhelmed by the excitement of meeting a pop star. Time passes in a burst of computer-animated explosions, giving way to two middle-aged women who emerge from the digital chaos. One reconnects with her old friend, now seen dumpster diving while talking on a cell phone. Together, they reflect on growing older and proudly reclaim the defiant refrain of their youth: they’re still “hot chicks on TV!”
Hot Chicks on TV featured performances by Alexandra Oliver, Dorie Carter, Sydney Shadbolt, and Margaret Dragu; with computer graphics by Robert Richardson, sound by Doug Brown, and music by Lyn Vasey.
