Description:

Developed while in residence at Western Front, Drinks is a single-channel video presented in three parts. The video opens with Canyon, dressed in a red t-shirt and underwear, sitting cross-legged on a couch, smoking and drinking a beer. In part two, Canyon and Mary McQueen are dressed in formalwear and sit opposite each other in peacock chairs—chatting, smoking, and toasting. As the scene progresses, they appear to grow increasingly animated and inebriated. The video ends as it began, with Canyon back on the couch, now wearing a blue t-shirt, holding a cigarette and a beer. He monologues to himself before curling up to sleep.

The video is edited with jerky, rapid cuts that fragment both motion and audio, creating the sensation of scrubbing through footage. This disrupted rhythm distorts the pacing of time, making it feel unstable or accelerated.

Video documentation is available upon request.
