Description:

Murmur is a two-channel video work by Sutapa Biswas, developed while in residence at Western Front. Filmed largely from a helicopter in the mountains near Banff, Alberta, the work unfolds as a sequence of non-linear, non-narrative vignettes. Sweeping aerial views of the Rocky Mountains, icy rivers, and snow-covered highways are intercut with intimate scenes: a paddle driving a canoe, feet being washed in a basin, a hand receiving acupuncture, a worn stone, and various flowers and trees from Western Canada. These images are unified by the steady sound of a beating heart.

Commissioned in partnership with IKON Gallery, Birmingham, United Kingdom.
