Description:

Editors Isaac Applebaum and Ben Holzberg presented on the arts magazines Impressions, Impulse, and Image Nation. While Image Nation and Impressions were considered photography magazines, and Impulse began as a poetry journal that evolved into an art magazine, the three publications represented different formats, editorial policies, and audiences.

Applebaum and Holzberg’s presentation considered the magazine as a communication device, as a chronicle of art activities, and as a portable gallery. Discussion questions focused on accessibility, self-promotion, and why to publish and for whom; as well as on their work with Impressions and Image Nation.
