Ten Skakel (My Baby)

Description:

While in residence at Western Front, T’uy’t’tanat-Cease Wyss developed the single-channel video Ten Skakel (My Baby). The work recounts Wyss’s experience giving birth to her first child, unfolding through a sequence of intimate scenes that blend personal narrative, oral history, and vérité documentary. Centring the interconnected cycles of birth, life, and death, the video features voiceover reflections by Wyss and her relatives. Stories about naming, moon phases and ceremonies, and traditional Coast Salish child-rearing practices emerge throughout the video.
