Self Portrait

Jun 13, 1992
Field:

Performance

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

9:00 p.m.

Description:

In this solo performance, Goji Hamada carried out a sequence of ceremonial actions to construct a self-portrait. A spotlight on the floor of the Grand Luxe Hall defined the performance space, within which Hamada distributed spices, communicated with a cat, wrapped his body in lights, and interacted with everyday forms of technology: portable video, radio, and Polaroid photography. Contact microphones attached to his body and the floor created a shifting ambient backdrop that indexed his gestures through auditory feedback.

Video documentation is available upon request.
