Jill Fraser was joined by her sisters Joy Fraser and Anne Fraser to perform when I turned three I had two younger sisters, now I am 39, a text for three voices.
The performance layered their own and each others’ lived experiences, to excavate fixed and fluid understandings of subjectivity, narrative, and relationality. The poetic script unfolded in overlapping cycles of solo, chorus, and counterpoint, with the three voices weaving in and out of sync. Seated in a line in the Grand Luxe Hall, the performers read from texts resting on plexiglass holders suspended from the ceiling, lending the work an ephemeral, sculptural presence.
Following the hour-long performance, audience members were invited to join the artists for pumpkin pie.
