Pauline Oliveros was an American composer, accordionist, and performer whose work informed the development of post-war experimental and electronic music through her meditative, improvisatory approach to sound. Oliveros pioneered the practice of Deep Listening, a technique and philosophy of sonic awareness that distinguishes between the involuntary nature of hearing, and the voluntary nature of listening.
