Description:

Western Front, PUMPS Centre for the Arts, and Video Inn/Satellite Video Exchange Society presented Living Art Performance Festival. The multi-day program was coordinated and curated by Glenn Lewis, Kim Tomczak, and Paul Wong with the collaboration of several curators and artists who animated many spaces throughout Vancouver. Performances took place at the Commodore Ballroom, the Actors Workshop, Robson Square Media Centre, and Videospace at the Vancouver Art Gallery.

Alongside the program of live events, a selection of performance tapes were made available for scheduled and on-demand viewing at Video Inn. Seventeen videos by local, national, and international artists were also featured in an exhibition mounted at the Vancouver Art Gallery to coincide with the festival. Spanning three weeks, the exhibition was divided into four distinct blocks that considered the complex relationship between performance and the camera: videotapes documenting performance, videotapes designed for video, videotapes edited and distilled as a post-production process, and videotapes and video hardware as elements of live performance.
