Description:

An evening of performances exploring experimental vocals presented as part of the VOICE OVER mind Festival.

Jazz vocalist Ayelet Rose Gotlieb was joined by Aram Bajakian on guitar, Peggy Lee on cello, Meredith Bates on violin, Dylan van der Schyff on drums, and the VOICE OVER mind choir to debut a new composition titled “12 Lunar Meditations” (2018). The song cycle featured original text by Gotlieb alongside citations from poets, vocalists, and specialists including Malika Zarra, Birdie Lawson, Gem Salsberg, Nihan Devecioglu, Shelly Mehari, Katie Bull, Anna Smaill, Franny Silverman, Georgia Spiropoulos, Noemi Deslex, Kyoko Kitamura, and Bes Davies.

This was followed by a solo performance by Tomomi Adachi which involved experimental vocal techniques, sonic poetry, and improvisation with self-made electronic instruments—including his infrared sensor shirt.

The evening closed with a talk back with the artists and Western Front new music curator DB Boyko.

Presented with support from SOCAN Foundation and the Government of Canada.
