Feb 21, 2013
Field:

Screening, Talk

Location:

Grand Luxe Hall, Western Front

Time:

7:00 p.m.

Description:

Past is Prologue welcomed Heidi Nutley, Sydney Vermont, Jesse Birch, and Jade Boyd—members of the artist collective Project Rainbow—to present a screening of past-works and works-in-progress that focused on the history of dance at Western Front.

The evening showcased interviews with Jane Ellison, Eric Metcalfe, and Hank Bull that Project Rainbow produced while in residence at Western Front as part of their video work Ultraviolet (2013); as well as a selection of tapes from Western Front’s archive, including Steve Paxton and Paul Wong’s Asteroid (1978).

This iteration of Past is Prologue was also accompanied by a text by Lisa Robertson titled “On Form (For Jane Ellison)” (2013).

Past is Prologue was a series that invited artists, writers, curators, and critics to produce a new work using the Western Front archive as a critical point of departure.

Presented with support from the Government of British Columbia and the City of Vancouver.
