Description:

While in residence at Western Front with Chilean artists Diamela Eltit and Nelly Richard, Lotty Rosenfeld produced the single-channel video La Oscuridad de Mi Lengua (The Darkness of My Language). The video documents an art action and protest led by Rosenfeld in Vancouver in December 1987. The street scene transitions from black-and-white to colour, while a voice-over features a woman speaking Spanish, with key phrases echoed in English. Treated with reverb, the vocals create an echo that reverberates both sonically and linguistically.

Video documentation is available upon request.
